  • Interesting facts: There is an underwater shelf that projects out into the lake from the beach area, or the east end of the lake. Deer Lake's water depth can change from three feet to 30 feet in one step.
  • Known for: Deer Lake is considered an "all-sports" lake, meaning any type of boat is permitted on the lake ranging from: speed boats, jet boats, ski boats, sail boats, kayaks, or any boat with a motor of any size, jet skis, and personal watercraft.
  • History: The Deer Lake Inn Hotel was a summer resort for vacationers from Detroit and Lansing. The resort was easily accessed by four trains a day during the summer months from the 1890s to the 1940s and was located on Deer Lake near the Clarkston depot. It featured boating, fishing, sailing, sunbathing and tennis.
  • Landmarks: In 1851, the Detroit, Grand Haven and Milwaukee Railway came through Independence Township and a train depot was built in Clarkston, MI. Since 1962, the depot has been used as a theater by the Clarkston Village Players, a local community theater organization.
  • Other notes: Deer Lake is one of the first lakes the Clinton River flows through, and the first lake in Independence Township, after the river rises in Springfield Township and flows along the main branch along the Clinton River.
