Location

Located on the Lake Michigan shoreline, Manistique is in the upper peninsula full of wonderful recreational opportunities and a national forest offering many opportunities to enjoy a relaxing lifestyle.

Medical and emergency needs can be located at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic about two miles southwest of downtown Manistique. Other medical care centers can also be found around the center of town.

Almost five miles from downtown, Manistique is the Schoolcraft County Airport-ISQ which is a public county-owned airport with flights to fit your needs.

Outdoor and Water Activities

Find many outdoor recreation activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, hunting, and sightseeing with beautiful views of Lake Michigan.

Through the wonder Manistique River, canoers can kayak or canoe down the river which leads out into Lake Michigan for a relaxing adventure. Fishermen are offered different areas along Lake Michigan to fish for many kinds of fish including bass, trout, and salmon along with several other species.

The Manistique Lakeshore Campground provides full amenities and attractions for anyone to enjoy their beaches, golf courses, lighthouses, waterfalls, Kitch-iti-Kipi (The Big Spring), boardwalk, and riverwalk. The boardwalk features beautiful views of Lake Michigan and the lighthouse as you take a stroll walking or biking down 1.83 miles from the eastern city limits. It offers a fishing pier, picnic grounds, and an enjoyable time through nature and wildlife.

Kitch-iti-Kipi, referred to as The Big Spring is Michigan’s largest natural freshwater spring featuring activities such as hunting, paddling, a boat launch, and concessions for many to enjoy located six miles northwest of Manistique.

Manistique features breathtaking views during all four seasons of the year with several historical landmarks, community events, shops, and dining.

month the city of Manistique hosts a variety of family-friendly events for all to explore such as farmers' markets, summer concerts, makers markets, and parades for specific holidays. The farmers market produces fresh, locally grown foods for each season located at Little Bear West Arena. Summer concerts are located outside at the Manistique City Band Shell in Central Park that is presented by Lake Effect Community Arts Center.

Many small businesses are located in downtown Manistique offering a variety of products for all ages to browse through. There are some options to shop for specialty food items that offer tastings of products and culinary classes for “foodies.”
